Executive Director, Bird Group

As Executive Director of the Bird Group, Gaurav Bhatia provides strategic direction to the conglomerate of the Bird Group. An alumnus of the prestigious Modern School, Vasant Vihar, Gaurav has a degree in Business Management from the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom.

This young scion of the Bhatia family joined the business in early 2000 at an opportune moment when the aviation industry was booming in India. Today, Gaurav spearheads the Aviation Services of the Bird Group that has expanded from handling the daily operations of a single aircraft to close to 100 aircrafts a day at Delhi, Bangalore and Cochin. Gaurav has been heading Aviation Services for the past ten years.

Aviation Services comprise two categories:
Marketing/Distribution and Facilitation to Foreign Carriers: With the aviation sector in India booming, Gaurav has been aggressively expanding airline management – the division that remains at the root of Bird Group’s phenomenal success story. The flagship vertical of the Group, Bird Travels represents airlines and other travel and tourism partners as GSA operations, aviation management arm for airlines, travel and tourism advisors and much more. Bird Travels currently represents several top international airlines like Air Iceland, Air China, Avianca, APG Network, Nepal Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Finnair, Garuda Indonesia, Hong Kong Airlines, Hunnu Air, Iceland Air, Jazeera Airways, Oman Air, MIAT Mongolian Airlines, Thai Smile Airways, Rwand Air, Regent Airways and Vietjet Air to name a few.

Ground Handling: After completing his graduation, Gaurav identified the need of the untouched sector of Ground Handling.

Ground Handling involves two functionalities:
Aircraft handling for services at the terminal namely check-ins, customer relations, assisting passengers during arrival and departure and when flights are interrupted, delayed or cancelled, baggage handling. If applicable, arrange storage of baggage in the Custom’s bonded store (any fees to be paid by the passenger), notify the Carrier of complaints and claims made by the Carrier’s passengers, process such claims and handle lost, found and damaged property matters and reservations.

Ground handling also involves aircraft handling for services on the ramp namely: baggage handling, provide marshalling at arrival and/or departure, parking of aircraft, cooling and heating, loading and unloading, moving of aircrafts and its interior cleaning, toilet and water service and storage of cabin material.

Under his astute leadership, Bird Group has been expanding its horizons to ensure the best practices in Indian aviation, on the ground and in the air. The Bird Group holds credits for creating India’s first licensed Private third Party Ground Handling Company. It’s currently handling 100+ aircrafts per day at DEL, BLR and Cochin and around 4,000 flights per annum. Also Ground handling service providers has been designated for the new Bangalore International Airport.

Gaurav’s commitment to technological efficiency has resulted in various customer awards for Best Handling Performances for various airlines at the respective airports.

Nursing a strong passion for cars since his childhood, Gaurav’s penchant for cars motivated him to brand the Bird Group with BMW — the most luxurious retail for which the dealership was awarded to Bird Automotives. Bird Automotives runs the state-of-the-art showroom and a best – facility workshop. Currently, Bird Automotive is an authorized dealer for BMW as well as Mini Cooper in North India.

Apart from cars, Gaurav also felt that the future of luxury lies in marines and this was the reason behind getting the representation for the luxury yacht manufacturer Cranchi in India. Tapping a hitherto unexplored sector, Bird Marine - another arm of Bird Luxury Retail aims at forging a new dimension of marine luxury in India. Plans are also under way to set up a marina off the West coast of India to support our multi brand portfolio. Gaurav is looking forward to placing Cranchi to high end segments.
